WSS'09 Round 11 :Nürburgring, race day

Round 11 of World Supersport closed with a result under expectations for team ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing as Garry McCoy finished eighth while Gianluca Nannelli had to retire from the race due to a crash after five laps.

After qualifying fourth, the hard work which rewarded McCoy with his first front row start on the Daytona 675 was soon undone as he got away slowly and became involved in a skirmish at the Nurburgring’s notoriously tight first corner. However, he did not give up and making up nine places in the 20 lap race McCoy finishing eighth, only four seconds behind Massimo Roccoli who took fourth place. The result sees Garry retain his eighth place in the championship with three races remaining.

Gianluca Nannelli, McCoy’s hard-charging team-mate in the ParkinGO Triumph BE1 squad, crashed out after five laps. The Italian had qualified on the second row of the grid but also lost some places at the start. He was running just outside a points' scoring position when he crashed out trying to make up places.
 
Local wild-card Kevin Wahr put in a highly credible performance on the G-LAB prepared Daytona 675 he usually rides in the German championship. The 20-year-old rode with great consistency to score two championship points for 14th place.
 
The championship now returns to Italy and the famous Imola circuit in three weeks’ time. Hopes will be high of a good result on BE1 Racing’s home circuit and the track where Nannelli scored his one previous world supersport race win in 2005.
 
GARRY McCOY |  Triumph Daytona 675 | 8th: "I'm not happy at all with the result. Unfortunately, my race was already compromised from lap one. After the problem I had at the start, another rider just bumped into me at the first corner. I went wide and lost a lot of positions. I started to climb back again but on this kind of track you lose a lot of time trying to overtake the others. It's really a pity because I was hoping for a better result".
 
GIANLUCA NANNELLI |  Triumph Daytona 675 | retired: "I'm really sorry for the crash because we had a good a setup and I thought I could score a great result. Now we'll gather all the data and see why I crashed today".
