WSS'09 Round 8: Nannelli Ninth in Misano
Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Rain during most of the practice sessions at Misano meant that neither Garry McCoy nor Gianluca Nannelli went into the race without a perfect set-up but, despite this, Nannelli was impressive as he qualified fifth on the grid.
Both the Triumph riders were part of the leading group in the opening laps until the red flag was brought out to stop the race after oil was dropped on the circuit after seven laps.
From the restart the Triumph riders continued to battle for places inside the top 10 with Nannelli, who was riding a repaired bike after sliding off on the oil, leading McCoy.
During the second part of the race, the Australian was forced to pull out with a rare clutch problem, while Nannelli came home ninth for six championship points.
The next round of the championship takes place at Donington Park in Leicestershire this weekend, with the team making a visit to Triumph’s factory on Thursday to see where their Daytona 675s were built.
Meanwhile, over in the UK, James Westmoreland took his 2008 model Daytona 675 to third place at the fast Snetterton circuit, moving him up to fifth in the championship. The young privateer was less than two seconds behind race winner and championship leader Steve Plater to maintain his 100% points scoring record. Paul Young finished ninth on his Daytona 675.
In Germany, Triumph Daytona 675s grabbed top 10 finishes in both IDM Supersport rounds at Sachsenring. Finnish rider Tatu Lauslehto took a fifth and a ninth, while Germany’s Kevin Wahr was sixth and tenth.
