Wade Dominates Donington
Tuesday, August 12, 2008
Saturday was a Club day, the weather was far from ideal with driving rain and strong winds. Wade took to the track for the only dry session of the day, SOT qualifying. After a few laps to familiarise himself with Donington again put the 675 in a solid 2nd position. Next came F600 qualifying the track was damp and very slippery, Wade put the 675 in 4th.
Race 1 SOT was very wet and Wade had focused on getting a good setup for these tricky conditions. He led from the start finishing the 8 lap race a massive 12s ahead of the field, with a best lap over 2s quicker than anyone else.
Race 2 F600, the conditions had worsened and the track was saturated, but again Wade pulled away from the field finishing over 7s ahead and claiming fastest lap.
Race 3 SOT, was another wet race so as Wade was confident in his setup for Sunday he did not enter this as there would of been no benefit, as the club rounds do not count towards the championship.
Race 4 F600, the conditions had changed for this and the track was drying with damp patches. With a new setup to try the race was on. Wade cleared the field on the first lap and then pulled a lead of 7s once again winning the race.
Sunday was a new day and one that required complete focus. Wade needed to gain valuable points on the F600 championship leader and cement his SOT championship lead.
The track was dry all day but light showers kept hitting the circuit making conditions very difficult to predict.
During the two qualifying sessions Wade poled both the SOT and the F600. He claimed the F600 pole by nearly 1.5s. The F600 qualifying was combined with Pro bikes but only one pro bike managed a quicker time than the spritely 675.
Race 1 SOT, this race counted for double points as were all the Superclub races on Sunday. After gaining the wholeshot Wade pushed the 675 hard, he was hounded by a snarling Ducati 1098 but after 8 laps Wade beat the Ducati rider into submission, breaking his tow Wade pulled away for a convincing victory, winning by over 23s and lapping upto 6th position through the field.
Race 2 F600, again Wade got the wholeshot and pushed hard gradually increasing his lead, or so he had thought! The pit signals had not been entirely correct. The man in second was a wild card and had not been recognised by the pit crew giving signals. Wade had reduced his pace due to the information and in doing so had made several mistakes. On lap 12 he was greeted with a signal that took him by surprise. A shaking fist meant he was under pressure this helped him regain focus and get his head down. With the chasing rider pressurising Wade kept his head and dropped his lap times by over a second responding to the threat. Wade ended the race setting his fastest lap on the final lap of the 22 completed despite the heavily worn tyres, and won by nearly 2s.
To complete a perfect weekend of five victories from five races Marcus Wade was awarded Man of the Meeting.
The results also means the Pressure is back on the Leader of the F600 championship as his lead has been cut from 42 points to 24, meaning one slip up from Mark Cronshore will drop him into Wade’s hands. The SOT championship lead has also been extended.
Waderacing is still actively looking for support for next year. With plans to undertake a season of British Supersport Cup. Please see http://www.waderacing.co.uk/ for details.
