CATALYTIC CONVERTERS
For some markets Triumph motorcycles are fitted with catalytic converters to reduce exhaust emissions. The catalytic converters have a metal matrix type construction that is coated with up to three noble metals - palladium, platinum and rhodium. The catalyst helps speed up the naturally occuring chemical reactions, converting carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons to water and carbon dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide to carbon dioxide and nitrogen before the gases exit the tail pipe. The chemical reaction generates heat and raises the working temperature of the catalyst to between 300°C and 900°C.
