FLOATING DISCS
The stainless steel swept area of a Triumph disc is mounted, using floating pins, onto an aluminium carrier which is itself bolted directly to the wheel. This arrangement gives a significant weight advantage over a solid steel assembly. The degree of movement allowed by the floating pins compensates for the different expansion rates of the two materials. The floating discs reduce unsprung weight and gyroscopic forces, improving wheel control and speed of steering.
